The 8-12th November 2021 is Charity Cyber Security Awareness Week. Take advantage, by working with CyberCrowd to certify your charity against the Cyber Essentials standard.

Charities are sitting on a data treasure trove. Valuable information on beneficiaries, supporters and volunteers as well as invoice and payment details can be sold by cyber criminals and used to identify other targets.

In the present digital, post-COVID age, trust and cyber security are interwoven. By achieving Cyber Essentials your charity can demonstrate commitment to cyber security and protection of customer data.

Cyber Essentials is a Government backed scheme which focuses on five important technical controls which are designed to guard against the most common internet based cyber security threats. It allows organisations of all sizes to demonstrate their commitment to cyber security. From April 1st 2020 IASME became the National Cyber Security Centre’s Cyber Essentials Partner, responsible for the delivery of the scheme.

CyberCrowd is working with ISAME to spread the message and help educate charities about the cyber threat they face and inform them about the benefits of Cyber Essentials. As part of that awareness campaign, CyberCrowd will be offering support and guidance as well as a discount to the price of certification to help you achieve Cyber Essentials. If you are a registered charity and you sign up and pay for Cyber Essentials during that week you will pay the discounted price of £225 +VAT.

You will need to give your registered charity number to your chosen Certification Body (CyberCrowd), and they will check it against the Charity Commission Register. You must apply for your Cyber Essentials certification during our Cyber Essentials for Charities week, which starts on the 8th of November. Cut off will be 5pm on 12th November. You must start the process within one month of application and must have completed and
submitted the assessment by 12th December 2021. If these conditions are not met, IASME and/ CyberCrowd reserve the right to invoice the previous discount or require the charity to re-apply at full cost.

If you need help getting started on your Cyber Essentials journey you can access the free Cyber Essentials Readiness Tool, developed on behalf of the NCSC by IASME. CyberCrowd are happy to talk to you about the process and guide you through the general gotchas. The Readiness Tool is an interactive set of questions that addresses different parts of your organisation’s security. Advice and guidance is available specifically for those in the charity sector and a step by step action plan is tailored to your requirements based on your answers to the questions. You will receive specific help in the areas that you need to address in order to achieve Cyber Essentials.
